Internship at Skoltech provided a great chance for me to continue to learn how to use robots in real life, as well as what some potential applications are. It was also a great chance to do some research and to get some real-world, hands-on experience.
Alex
MIT, Intern at Skoltech in 2018
At Skoltech, I worked with a graduate student on an exciting research project studying methods of planning distributed asteroid mining systems. In the months I spent there, I got the opportunity to work in both academic and industry environments. By the end of my internship, both my research abilities and Russian language proficiency had greatly improved.

The winter track represents the best opportunity to do an intensive internship at a research laboratory of your choice.

During the winter, all of Skoltech's faculty members and researchers work on campus and are actively involved in research projects, and you will be able to join a project that corresponds to your academic interests. Additionally, during the winter, from the end of January to the end of April, Skoltech students are offered the greatest number of courses in various disciplines. Thus, in parallel with an internship, you can take one or two courses of the Master's program.

We know that, for the most part, students from Europe and the USA stay at their universities, so the winter program group will be small. However, those students who choose to attend the winter track will receive the most attention from Skoltech faculty and students.

And yes, the winter track is the best way for students from Australia, New Zealand and South American countries to spend vacations.

Fall track is focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. Its core element is the Innovation Workshop - an intensive course with a full immersion into innovation environment. Below you will find a preliminary version of the curriculum, subject to slight modifications.
Innovation Workshop
Weeks 1-4

Innovation Workshop, originally designed at MIT and implemented by its experts at Skoltech, is aimed at instilling into the students awareness on how they can commercialize their research in science and technology from the very beginning. The IW concept looks like a script of a reality TV show. As part of a team with people whom they haven't met before and whose area of expertise is not the same, students have to think up an original idea for a tech start-up. After one week, they present their project to a team of mentors, which includes successful entrepreneurs, business moguls and industry experts. The learning objectives of this part of IW are teamwork, the ability to acquire essential knowledge and, when necessary, project management skills, as well as self-assurance and belief in oneself.
Ideas to Impact
Weeks 5-12

Traditionally there's a gap between research done in academic labs and the needs of the industry. The course, Ideas to Impact, is designed to help students develop the ability to find, evaluate, and develop technological ideas into commercially viable product and process concepts, and build those concepts into viable business propositions. The material covered is research and theory-based, but the course is practice-oriented with much of the term spent on shaping technology-based opportunities. In previous years, students enrolled in the Ideas to Impact course experienced a real-life industry innovation challenge, as they got an opportunity to work on a task provided by Philips Lighting, a global market and innovation leader in lighting solutions. Students benefited and immersed themselves because they were in contact with researchers from the very beginning of the course.
